Artemiy Artemiev is a musician from Russia whose albums usually cross boundaries between new age music, electronics, and electro-acoustics. For Space Icon he teamed up with German painter/musician Peter Frohmader to record a CD strongly rooted in space rock territory. The album is made up of layers of keyboards over which Frohmader pins his guitar solos and eery soundscapes, along with an occasional groove. This release represents the most accessible work from both artists. Artemiev's electronics are clearly more beat and song oriented here. On the other end, Frohmader's contribution is a lot less gloomy here than on another collaborative work released at the same time, Fossil Culture with Richard Pinhas (on Cuneiform Records)…

Night of the Crime is the second album by the heavy metal band Icon. It was far more polished than their self-titled debut and forayed into areas of glam only previously alluded to on their debut. It was produced and engineered by legendary producer, Eddie Kramer. Around 30 songs were demoed for the album, and Eddie Kramer´s version included one more finished track, Hang Tough (later covered by Pretty Maids). Ron Nevison remixed the album and Hang Tough did not make it to the final release. The album has, like the debut, been remastered and re-released several times on CD. "Night of the Crime" was voted 3rd best AOR album of all time by Kerrang! magazine readers, behind multimillion selling classic albums by Journey and Michael Bolton.

Universal’s 2010 collection Icon 2 expands the simultaneously released 12-track Icon by another 12-track CD that covers the group’s '80s hits. Although this material isn’t quite as well regarded as the ‘70s hits that make up the first disc, this does make for a good overview of the band’s peak and includes such latter-day staples as “I Love It Loud,” “Lick It Up,” “Heaven’s on Fire,” “Crazy Crazy Nights,” and “God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II.”

Barry White has been to the top of the charts an admirable number of times, but only one of his hits was a ballad (a studio effort for the Quincy Jones album Back on the Block that included El DeBarge, James Ingram and Al B. Sure!). However, as a solo artist, White has never had a ballad usurp the number one spot on the Billboard charts. The Icon Is Love's featured release fills that void. "Practice What You Preach," which unites the maestro with producers Gerald LeVert and Edwin Nicholas, has a simmering arrangement, evocative lyric, and White's brawn delivery. The catchy melody and sensuous female backing vocals enhance this already stellar single. It stayed on the Billboard R&B charts for 30 weeks and had a consecutive three-week run at number one.
