New Directions in Third Wave Human-Computer Interaction: Volume 1 - Technologies (Repost)

New Directions in Third Wave Human-Computer Interaction: Volume 1 - Technologies by Michael Filimowicz
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 | 289 Pages | ISBN : 3319733559 | 12.03 MB

As the first extensive exploration of contemporary third wave HCI, this handbook covers key developments at the leading edge of human-computer interactions. Now in its second decade as a major current of HCI research, the third wave integrates insights from the humanities and social sciences to emphasize human dimensions beyond workplace efficiency or cognitive capacities. The earliest HCI work was strongly based on the concept of human-machine coupling, which expanded to workplace collaboration as computers came into mainstream professional use. Today HCI can connect to almost any human experience because there are new applications for every aspect of daily life.

Terahertz Wave Detection and Imaging with a Hot Rydberg Vapour

Terahertz Wave Detection and Imaging with a Hot Rydberg Vapour by Christopher G. Wade
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 | 97 Pages | ISBN : 3319949071 | 10.02 MB

This book details groundbreaking experiments for the sensing and imaging of terahertz-frequency electromagnetic radiation (THz) using Rydberg atoms. The major advances described include the development and implementation of a new technique for THz imaging using atomic fluorescence; the demonstration of a THz-driven phase transition in room-temperature atomic vapour; and a novel method for probing the excited-state dynamics of atoms using quantum beats. The work has formed the basis for several articles published in journals including Nature Photonics and the Physical Review, and has sparked industry interest, becoming the subject of ongoing collaborative research and development. This exceptionally well-written book provides a definitive account of terahertz sensing with Rydberg atoms.

Cybersecurity in China: The Next Wave

Cybersecurity in China: The Next Wave By Greg Austin
English | EPUB | 2018 | 147 Pages | ISBN : 3319684353 | 0.5 MB

This book offers the first benchmarking study of China’s response to the problems of security in cyber space. There are several useful descriptive books on cyber security policy in China published between 2010 and 2016. As a result, we know quite well the system for managing cyber security in China, and the history of policy responses. What we don’t know so well, and where this book is useful, is how capable China has become in this domain relative to the rest of the world. This book is a health check, a report card, on China’s cyber security system in the face of escalating threats from criminal gangs and hostile states. The book also offers an assessment of the effectiveness of China’s efforts. It lays out the major gaps and shortcomings in China’s cyber security policy. It is the first book to base itself around an assessment of China’s cyber industrial complex, concluding that China does not yet have one. As Xi Jinping said in July 2016, the country’s core technologies are dominated by foreigners.

Wave is the fourth studio album by the Patti Smith Group, released May 17, 1979 on Arista Records. This album was less commercially successful than its predecessor, Easter, although it continued the band's move towards more radio-friendly mainstream pop music. It was produced by artist/producer Todd Rundgren.

Mechanical engineering. an engineering discipline borne of the needs of the in dustrial revolution. is once again asked to do its substantial share in the call for industrial renewal. The general call is urgent as we face profound issues of produc tivity and competitiveness that require engineering solutions. among others. The Mechanical Engineering Series features graduate texts and research monographs intended to address the need for information in contemporary areas of mechanical engineering. The series is conceived as a comprehensive one that covers a broad range of concentrations important to mechanical engineering graduate education and re search.

Shock Wave Interactions in General Relativity: A Locally Inertial Glimm Scheme for Spherically Symmetric Spacetimes (Repost)

Shock Wave Interactions in General Relativity: A Locally Inertial Glimm Scheme for Spherically Symmetric Spacetimes By Jeffrey Groah
English | True PDF | 2007 | 157 Pages | ISBN : 038735073X | 2.06 MB

This monograph presents a self contained mathematical treatment of the initial value problem for shock wave solutions of the Einstein equations in General Relativity. The first two chapters provide background for the introduction of a locally intertial Glimm Scheme, a non-dissipative numerical scheme for approximating shock wave solutions of the Einstein equations in spherically symmetric spacetimes. What follows is a careful analysis of this scheme providing a proof of the existence of (shock wave) solutions of the spherically symmetric Einstein equations for a perfect fluid, starting from initial density and velocity profiles that are only locally of bounded total variation. The book covers the initial value problems for Einstein's gravitational field equations with fluid sources and shock wave initial data. It has a clearly outlined goal: proving a certain local existence theorem. Concluding remarks are added and commentary is provided throughout. The book will be useful to graduate students and researchers in mathematics and physics.
