Mike Oldfield, watch out. This all-instrumental album, consisting of two long pieces ("Slow Dance Parts 1 and 2") that mix new age sounds with rock, crosses into territory staked out most successfully by the tubular bell-ringer, and comes off as sort of Windham Hill with a beat. This material features clarinet, oboe, flute, trumpet, harp, and percussion as well as guitar, and it does sort of resemble the spacy synthesizer interludes and bridges found as parts of the longer pieces on Genesis's progressive-era albums…

Whereas Anthony Phillips' debut album The Geese & the Ghost was recorded piecemeal over a period of years, his sophomore set was cut in comparatively record time, a month in fall 1977, just as the first rave reviews for its predecessor hit the stands. It was an invigorating period and Phillips' confidence oozes out of every groove…

Anthony Phillips was one of the original founding members of Genesis featuring Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, and Michael Rutherford. Following "Trespass", Genesis' second album, Phillips left (purportedly due to stage fright) and was replaced by Steve Hackett. Nothing was heard again from Anthony until 1977, when he favored us with his first solo, "The Geese and the Ghost", although Phillips wasn't the first member of the band to release a solo album (that honor goes to Steve Hackett, by releasing "Voyage of the Acolyte", in 1975). A more commercial audience was courted on "Wise After The Event" and "Sides", to no avail, and Phillips spent much of his time releasing instrumental pieces (both old and new) under the "Private Parts & Pieces" series…

In the autumn of 1984 Anthony Phillips (ex-Genesis) was commissioned by music publishers De Wolfe to write and record an album of library music for use on TV and Film. In marked contrast to the solo 12-string pieces he was working on at the same time for Twelve, the library project had a number of requirements in the initial brief, one of the key ones being the use of then-contemporary electronic drum and synthesiser sounds…

The definitive edition of the 1977 seminal debut solo album by GENESIS founding member Anthony Phillips. The music album could arguably be seen to have begun life as far back as 1969, but in essence it was the result of nearly four years hard work by Anthony, in collaboration with Mike Rutherford (who co-wrote three of the pieces on the record), beginning with a series of recordings made on TEAC 4 track tape recorders, progressing to sessions on the barge studio of engineer Tom Newman. Enlisting the assistance of Phil Collins, John Hackett, Viv Mcauliffe, Jack Lancaster and many others, The Geese and the Ghost finally appeared in 1977 in America on the Passport label and in the UK on the Hit & Run imprint. Lauded by many as a supreme achievement, this definitive of The Geese and the Ghost has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes by Simon Heyworth and includes a stunning new 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the album by Andy Myles and Simon Heyworth.

Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of a newly re-mixed and expanded edition of the classic instrumental album by GENESIS founder member Anthony Phillips, "1984". Released in 1981, the album was a radical departure from the more pastoral feel of Anthony's previous solo work, and saw him experiment with synthesisers to an extent he'd previously never done before, resulting in a keyboard dominated album. At the time of release, the album divided opinions among some Anthony Phillips fans, but the passage of time has seen the album re-evaluated and it is now held in high esteem by fans, critics and musicians, all of whom concur that “1984” now stands as a ground-breaking and influential work.

Released in 1983 in the USA and the following year in the UK, Invisible Men features the lighter side of Anthony Phillips' musical character and some fine, well-crafted songs. Material such as 'The Women Were Watching' and 'Exocet' reflected the times in which they were created.

Deluxe reissue of the classic 1979 album "Sides" by Genesis founder member Anthony Phillips. Produced by Rupert Hine, Sides was Anthony's third solo album and was a superb blend of instrumental music and songs. The record saw Anthony supported by an able cast of musicians that included Mike Giles and Mel Collins (King Crimson), John G. Perry (Caravan, Quantum Jump) and John Hackett (a member of his brother Steve's band). Featuring such wonderful compositions as 'Um & Aargh', 'Sisters of Remindum', 'Bleak House', 'Lucy Will' and 'Nightmare', Sides is a classic album of the late 70s Progressive era. This deluxe edition features a new stereo mix of the album by Andy Miles & Simon Heyworth.
