Given the long period of time that Donald Byrd recorded for Blue Note (from the 1950s through the mid-'70s), it seems more than a little disingenuous to refer to the relatively brief period he spent with the Mizell Brothers as his producers, arrangers, and composers in the '70s as his best work. It is true that it was his most commercially viable period, and that many of the cuts he recorded with them ~ AllMusic

Scholarship of literature and the environment demonstrates myriad understandings of nature and culture. While some work in the field results in approaches that belong in the realm of cultural studies, other scholars have expanded the boundaries of ecocriticism to connect the practice more explicitly to disciplines such as the biological sciences, human geography, or philosophy. …

A veteran of numerous straight-ahead jazz, R&B, and pop sessions, drummer/composer Harvey Mason revisits his own fusion past on "Chameleon". The Fourplay co-founder gathered both his peers and next-generation players for this revisitation of electric jazz classics from the '70s. A blend of R&B, urban and cutting-edge Jazz, "Chameleon" takes its inspiration from the title track, which drummer Harvery Mason co-wrote with Herbie Hancock in 1973. Mason himself was eventually nicknamed the “Chameleon” for his ability to perform so many styles of music. This album updates classic tracks that Mason either wrote or played on, such as Hancock’s Chameleon, Grover Washington’s Black Frost, Donald Byrd’s Places And Spaces and Mason’s own Either Way.

One of the great jam session recordings of the 1950s, All Night Long was under the relaxed direction of Kenny Burrell. The guitarist gathered together some of the finest young players on the New York scene, including Donald Byrd on trumpet and tenor saxophonists Hank Mobley and Jerome Richardson, one of the unsung heroes of the flute in jazz. Mal Waldron, Doug Watkins and Arthur Taylor were the rhythm section. The musical formats were uncomplicated; "All Night Long" a blues with a bridge, Waldron's "Flickers" a 16-bar pattern, Mobley's two originals based on familiar 32-bar chord sequences. From these simple, classic bases were launched performances with the hallmarks that have long identified any Burrell project: Relaxation, swing and high standards of musicianship.

An overlooked gem from Blue Note – a special live performance that brings together some of the label's funkiest and most soulful artists of the 70s! The set's somewhat unusual for Blue Note at the time – especially given the label's increasingly studio-driven approach to jazz, with projects by the Mizell Brothers and others – yet given that bent, the whole thing's a great illustration of the vibrancy of all these artists always from the studio – playing live and extremely funky!
