The Manticore and Other Horrors is the tenth studio album by English extreme metal band Cradle of Filth. Guitarist Paul Allender told Ultimate Guitar that "The last thing we want to do is come out with another album that sounds like the last two. We decided to change direction and go back to what we used to do with the female vocals; all the strong melody lines and harmonies… I've put a lot of punk orientated riffs back into it again. It's really gone quite dark and pretty hardcore."
This album contains the original recording of the band's second album from 1995 with the The Principle of Evil Made Flesh-lineup. Since the band did not like the result and the relationship with their then label (Cacophonous Records) got bad, they decided to not release it. Some members left Cradle of Filth to form The Blood Divine, while the rest plus new members recorded V empire… or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein, that was released instead of Dusk… and her Embrace via Cacophonous Records. In 1996 Music for Nations released the re-recorded version of Dusk… and her Embrace with the new lineup.
Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay is the twelfth studio album by the British extreme metal band Cradle of Filth. It is currently set for release on September 22, 2017 through Nuclear Blast Records. This marks the first time in the band's career where the same lineup since the previous album stayed as the Hammer of the Witches lineup continued on. Dani Filth said the album, "is deeply infused with Victorian gothic horror and thus the title is a reflection of that. 'Cryptoriana' implies the Victorians' infatuation with the supernatural, the grave and the ghoulish. And the subtitle, 'The Seductiveness of Decay', further cements this attraction to death and the glittering lengthy process of self-annihilation."
Eternal are from Sweden and "Chapter 1" was produced by no one else than Peter Tägtgren (Dimmu Borgir, Celtic Frost, Destruction, Dark Funeral, Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Sabaton, Amon Amarth). He proves to be a top notch producer not only for extreme metal bands. This is an awesome Melodic Metal Debüt from a band releasing a debut album! The two brothers Gärds, Christer, who sounds like a mix of Graham Bonnet and Joey Tempest, and the guitar wiz Bosse delivers power, energy, melody, headbanger guarantee - a great debut!
An appropriate album for this time of year particularly as we edge closer to Halloween, THEM’s sophomore release, “Manor of the Seven Gables,” attempts to capture that atmosphere. It must first be said that this is my first experience hearing the band so the review will surely reflect that. Skip this paragraph if you are already familiar with THEM. Vocalist Troy Norr originally formed the band in 2008 as a tribute band to KING DIAMOND. The band achieved quite a bit of success including performing shows with Mike Wead and Hal Patino from KING DIAMOND’s band. Now the band is centered around a concept idea of Norr’s with a six-person band assembled including keyboards to really add to the effect of the music particularly when performing their unique live show…
